Royal Mail Parcel Delivery
Royal Mail remains the UK's most recognised postal service and, for many senders, the default choice for letters and small parcels. But is it actually the cheapest option? Here's everything you need to know before you book.
Services at a glance
| Service | Speed | Tracking | Price from |

Maximum parcel sizes
Standard Royal Mail parcels can measure up to 61 cm × 46 cm × 46 cm and weigh a maximum of 20 kg for domestic services. Anything larger rolls over to Parcelforce Worldwide, Royal Mail's dedicated parcel carrier. Small Parcels (up to 2 kg) offer the best value if your item fits within 45 cm × 35 cm × 16 cm.
Tracking quality
Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 provide full scan-point tracking from collection to delivery, including a delivery confirmation with GPS coordinates. Standard 1st and 2nd Class offer no tracking at all — a significant downside if proof of delivery matters to you. Special Delivery adds a signature on arrival and £750 compensation as standard. Track your Royal Mail parcel at royalmail.com/track-your-item.

Our verdict
Royal Mail is hard to beat for letters and very small parcels, especially if you need Saturday delivery without paying a premium. For anything tracked, though, you will almost always find a cheaper quote by comparing across couriers. That is exactly what Parcelfire does — enter your parcel details once and instantly see whether Royal Mail or another carrier wins on price.
