Royal Mail Christmas Deadlines 2026

2nd Class and 2nd Class Signed For: Wednesday 18 December
1st Class and 1st Class Signed For: Friday 20 December
Tracked 24: Saturday 21 December
Special Delivery Guaranteed: Monday 23 December

Royal Mail is the backbone of UK Christmas posting. Their 2nd Class deadline is always the earliest, typically a full week before Christmas. If you are sending cards, get them in the post by the 18th. For parcels, 1st Class by the 20th gives you a safety margin.

DPD Christmas Deadlines 2026

DPD Next Day: Monday 23 December (for delivery on 24 December)
DPD 2-Day: Friday 20 December
DPD Saturday Delivery: Friday 20 December (for delivery 21 December)

DPD are one of the last couriers to stop before Christmas because they run their own fleet rather than relying on Royal Mail's network. If you have left it late, DPD Next Day on the 23rd is often your last reliable option. Expect to pay a premium though - surge pricing typically kicks in from December 20th onwards.

Evri Christmas Deadlines 2026

Standard delivery: Monday 16 December
ParcelShop to ParcelShop: Wednesday 18 December
Next Day: Friday 20 December

Evri's standard service has the earliest cutoff because their economy delivery takes 5-7 days normally and slows down further during the Christmas rush. If you are using Evri, do not leave it later than the 16th for standard. Their next-day service is more reliable at Christmas but costs nearly as much as DPD, so compare both.

If you are sending gifts abroad, you need to ship much earlier. Customs delays, longer transit times, and reduced flights all slow things down. Here are the general guidelines:

Tips for Christmas Shipping Success

Ship early. The single best thing you can do. Every courier gets slower as volume increases in December. A "next day" service on December 22nd might actually take 2-3 days because of the sheer volume.
Pay for tracking. At Christmas, parcels are more likely to go missing in the rush. Always use tracked services so you can chase if needed.
Avoid the cheapest economy options after December 10th. Economy services rely on spare capacity. There is no spare capacity at Christmas.
Have a backup plan. If your parcel has not arrived by December 22nd, know where your nearest late-night shop is for emergency gifts.
Check for surcharges. Some couriers add Christmas surcharges from December 15th onwards. Compare prices at the time of booking, not from memory.
